M.Sc. Applied AI

Apply now

Overview

The Master in Applied Artificial Intelligence is a two-year program (eight quarters) that covers the theoretical aspects of AI with an emphasis on concrete applications in industry, services, health and education. The Master is embedded in the matrix of postgraduate offerings of UDS and provides opportunities for advanced interdisciplinary work. Students take nine required and six elective courses, working in teams to solve complex real-world problems, many of which will be proposed by our industry partners. The program covers the most important aspects of symbolic AI, subsymbolic AI (neural networks and deep learning), advanced logic systems, language models, coding of complex systems and related technologies and applications.

Artificial Intelligence is now present in virtually every field, and professionals who can master its theory and applications are in high demand. AI applications now rely on massive libraries of code that UDS students are exposed to from the start. At the same time, students learn to develop their own coding libraries so that they do not become impenetrable black boxes. The interpretability of AI systems is one of the main aspects of this master program. Students also learn to ponder the ethical and security implications of AI from the very beginning of a project.

The German UDS welcomes students with a bachelor’s degree in STEM fields and all backgrounds to this master’s program. We expect our students to be curious and interested in participating in high-tech projects. Students learn to work in teams, enhancing their contributions and creativity. The program teaches how big AI projects are being conducted in the world today.

Program Objectives

  • This master’s program provides students with state-of-the-art knowledge and skills in AI and its main subfields: symbolic AI, subsymbolic AI (neural networks), probabilistic AI, language models, and intelligent control.
  • The program fosters creativity and innovation in students working in teams.
  • Students learn to code complex applications and develop solutions based on the optimal use of big data systems and AI libraries.
  • Students learn to build datasets and code for unsupervised learning, supervised learning, and reinforcement learning of AI systems in many areas.
  • Applications and industry specialization: The development and adaptation of AI generic models to specific needs in industry, services, healthcare, education and others is one of the main focuses of the master’s program.
  • Research methods and hands-on work: Students work in teams to develop applications that require additional research and deep understanding of ready-made libraries.
  • Final project and Master’s thesis: Implementation of an independent final project in conjunction with the Master’s thesis (together 30 ECTS). Students choose to 2 develop either a collaborative, creative project, or a research paper that examines an emerging applied or theoretical topic in the field of AI.
