He is the founding president of the German University of Digital Science. For almost 20 years he was the managing director of the Hasso Plattner Institute and developed the first European MOOC platform openHPI.de. His research interests include digital education, artificial intelligence, information security, and design thinking. He has published over 800 peer reviewed papers and is a member of acatech, the German Academy of Science and Engineering.
