The German University of Digital Science is a European pioneer in online higher education. It's a nonprofit institution with a mission to making cutting-edge education in AI, cybersecurity, and digital transformation accessible to students worldwide, especially those in the Global South. It's not just preparing the next generation of leaders - it's expanding who gets to be one. I'm proud to serve on its advisory board, and I encourage you to invest in its future.

Germany needs a bold push to keep pace in digitalization and artificial intelligence. This will only succeed if universities work closely with industry to drive innovation and make knowledge broadly accessible. With its digital degrees, the German UDS creates opportunities for people regardless of their location and life situation to gain the skills needed for the future - combining technological expertise with an understanding of the social and economic impact of digital transformation.

Digitalisation is transforming business, academia and society at remarkable speed. This makes it all the more important for our higher education system to develop innovative programmes that combine technological expertise, academic excellence and a strong sense of social responsibility. As part of a diverse higher education landscape, private universities contribute valuable impulses by exploring forward-looking study formats and new approaches to teaching and learning. Ultimately, the goal is to empower students to shape the digital transformation in a competent, responsible and values-based manner.

Technological change is increasingly outpacing the adaptability of many organizations and individuals. Innovation cycles lasting just a few months and skills with a half-life of barely two years clearly show that the traditional educational promise of “study, and then you'll be set for years” no longer applies. That is precisely why I am convinced by the vision of the German University of Digital Science. With a fully digital and globally accessible range of courses, it enables students to complete programs in future-oriented fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, or quantum computing in a flexible and needs-oriented manner, including in the form of independent micro degrees. The result is an education system that evolves at the speed required by our digital world.

The German University of Digital Science has taken a transformative step in expanding access to high-quality, research-driven higher education in future digital technologies. Grounded in the strong academic tradition and rigorous standards of the German higher education system, it offers internationally recognized degrees that stand for excellence, reliability, and innovation. By removing geographic barriers, it enables talented individuals from around the world to earn degrees without relocating, making excellence in education globally accessible. This model strengthens international collaboration and attracts diverse international talent essential for shaping the next generation of digital leaders. At the same time, the German UDS’s fully online structure allows learners to integrate study seamlessly into their professional and family lives. Parents and caregivers, in particular, benefit from the ability to learn without uprooting their families or compromising daily responsibilities. By aligning lifelong learning with real-world commitments, a digital university creates opportunity without disruption and supports sustainable, inclusive participation in the digital future.

Discussions with our members and other companies clearly highlight just how difficult it has become to find suitable skilled workers – particularly in the digital sector. The German University of Digital Science tackles this issue in a modern and highly practical way. As a non-profit, fully digital university, it caters to a global audience and enables students to obtain internationally recognised German higher education qualifications without having to come to Germany. The modular approach is particularly compelling. Companies and organisations can access specific content in high-demand digital fields and utilise it flexibly. The fact that modules can also be used as micro-degrees makes continuing professional development accessible and easy to integrate into the daily work routine. From the BWA’s perspective, this is a meaningful contribution to developing skilled workers and keeping companies competitive in the long term.
