Shaping Digital Innovation Around the World
To master the digital future, organizations need well-trained experts with tech and innovation competence. But how can they be educated?
On February 4th, 2026, the German University of Digital Science (German UDS) co-hosted the conference Innovation & Digitalization, aimed at professionals in the Arab world and beyond. Roughly 500 people attended, over 40% of whom are in leadership or executive positions. Addressing them were ten speakers, including German UDS professors Christoph Meinel, Maren Borkert, Steven Ney, Hanadi Traifeh and Thomas Staubitz.
Topics included digital transition, AI Integration and education. The speakers particularly addressed what challenges professionals and companies face and explained how digital universities can offer solutions.
Transformation impacts Employability
“Digital Transformation isn’t on the way, it’s already here.” With those words Prof. Dr. Meinel, president and CEO of German UDS, opened his keynote presentation.
Prof. Meinel outlined the impact of digital technologies on the job market where the required skills are dramatically changing. In recent years, not only has the demand for tech expertise steadily increased, but also the total number of skills required for a job. At the same time, many skills are becoming obsolete, leaving a large proportion of professionals in need of retraining.
To master the digital future, organizations need well-trained experts with tech competency as well as complex problem solving and innovative design skills. Universities need to train this but face structural difficulties.
Digital University as an Innovation Engine
How can professionals be trained to keep up with the demands of digital transformation? In a rapidly changing labor market, educational institutions need to be agile and keep up with these demands in order to prepare students and professionals for continuous progress.
Digital universities such as the German UDS address these challenges by providing modular, flexible learning opportunities with a focus on lifelong learning. German UDS´s mission is to empower global talent. It addresses the need for professionals to upskill to meet the needs of the job market.
