The German University of Digital Science presented the international conference “Digital Science in Media and Communication”, a two-day hybrid event held in November. The conference explored the dynamic and transformative impact of digital technologies on media, journalism, and communication in the modern era.
The program featured keynote addresses, panel sessions, and networking opportunities. Discussions examined how digital transformation reshaped the production and consumption of information, driven by AI, data-centric technologies, and emerging platforms. This shift expanded the possibilities for storytelling and engagement while also introducing challenges related to quality, credibility, and ethics. Research presentations highlighted the rising visibility of science and journalism, the democratization of media, and the associated risks. Speakers examined the benefits of AI, including automation and fact-checking, alongside risks such as algorithmic bias.
Further insights focused on how social media influenced public discourse and topic visibility, and how digital literacy and platform design shaped journalism’s reach and impact. Presentations also addressed evolving audience behaviour, particularly among digital natives, whose communication patterns reflected more participatory and personalized media experiences.
The event also explored the emergence of hybrid media models combining print and digital formats, emphasizing the need for innovative business models to maintain quality and trust. Conversations pointed toward a future of journalism shaped by AI integration, immersive formats, digital literacy, and strong ethical frameworks.
Across all sessions, the conference aimed to analyse these transformations, share current findings, and discuss strategies that support quality, inclusivity, and innovation in digital media. Key themes included artificial intelligence, audiences, the future of journalism, AI-driven storytelling, digital ethics, navigating the digital shift, and emerging approaches in rewired media.
With visionary keynote addresses at the opening and closing of each day, the event delivered a rich program of interactive discussions and interdisciplinary networking opportunities. Participants engaged with new trends, critical debates, and forward-looking perspectives shaping the future of media and communication in the digital age.
